You'll be able to recognise and use simple words and phrases for concrete purposes. You'll be able to initiate small talks like introducing yourself or someone else. You'll also be able to answer basic questions about home, family, surroundings, etc. You'll also be able to communicate with other people and read simple French text.

You'll be able to understand isolated phrases and common expressions that relate to areas of high personal relevance (like personal or family information, shopping, immediate environment, work). You will be able to communicate during easy or habitual tasks requiring a basic and direct information exchange on familiar subjects.

TEF-Canada or the Test d’Évaluation de Français pour le Canada tests the French language proficiency of both native and non-native French speakers. It is recognised as official proof of language proficiency by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as well as the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI) du Québec for permanent residency applications, certificat de sélection du Québec applications and Canadian citizenship applications. The test assesses the candidate’s level of proficiency using a 7-level scale based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) for each skill i.e. reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
